SALT project

The Villupuram collectorate has initiated the SALT Project to skill youth from the coastal area. 6 NGO's have been asked to provide skill training in tailoring, beautician, repair and maintenance of home appliances, computer maintenance & repair, date entry operation with accounting and tally as well as in welding.
Auroville Institute of Applied Technology/AIAT was selected by the District Skill Office of Villupuram to conduct training in welding, computer hardware & maintenance and in data entry operation with accounting and tally. The syllabus of these courses is prescribed by the Sector Skill Council of India. The course duration is limited to approx. 400 hrs./course and is financed by the Tamil Nadu Skill Development Corporation (TNSDC). The trainees will be trained for 3 hrs./day. They are given free transport.
On 20th the District Project Officer Mr. Vasudevan inaugurated the beginning of Computer Hardware & Maintenance course for 20 candidates from the Villupuram coastal region at Auroville Institute of Applied Technology in the presence of Mrs. Karin Latzke, Executive of AIAT, Mr. Arumugam and Mr. Alphonse, Vice Principals of AIAT. The trained candidates would be able to assemble and service computers in self-employment.
